Overview:
Reading comprehension is a complex process that requires the reader to know and understand how the English language works and how it is represented in print, as well as to be able to make connections between their background knowledge and experiences and the printed text. The process is even more complex for English Language Learners who face the dual challenge of trying to learn to understand, speak, and spell in English while simultaneously trying to read for content.
The goal of this series is two-fold:
-
To help practitioners gain an understanding of how learning to read differs for native English speakers and English language learners
-
To provide practitioners with techniques and strategies to help English Language Learners develop reading comprehension skills that will make reading pleasurable and meaningful
